East Riddlesden Hall
Owned and run by the
National Trust, East Riddlesden Hall, situated on the
outskirts of Keighley, is a nicely preserved 17th
century merchant's house, set in its own grounds
complete with duck pond, gardens and orchard. There is
also a ruined wing, covered in climbing plants, and a
magnificently restored 17th-century oak-framed barn.
The Hall is
supposedly haunted. The interior is also restored and is
full of period furniture, kitchens, etc. It has a
wonderful ambience, furnished with textiles, Yorkshire
oak furniture and pewter, together with fine examples of
17th-century embroidery. There have regular costumed
tours, different events through the year.
The garden is well
worth a visit and there is an adventure playground as
well as a tea room.
The house is closed
during the winter, November through to February, but the
shop and teashop are open November & December up to
Christmas.
