Heritage, Museums and Galleries
Bradford District is home to
some of the most exciting museums and galleries in Yorkshire.
These are just a few examples:
Bradford Industrial
Museum - Moorside Mills was built in
1875, and is now the popular Industrial Museum, which features
textile machinery, steam power, engineering and motor vehicles.
Enjoy the splendour of the Mill Owner's House, visit the more
humble Mill-workers' terraces, and admire the team of working
horses.
Bracken Hall Countryside
Centre - Bracken Hall is situated on
the edge of Shipley Glen, a popular beauty spot. The Centre has
displays relating to the natural history, geology, archaeology
and local history of the area. The colourful interactive
wildlife exhibits delve into the lives of badgers, frogs and
bats, and tanks contain a variety of local water creatures and
mini-beasts. There are interactive displays about other animals
and foodwebs.
Lister Park and
Cartwright Hall Art Gallery - Lister
park, a green flag award winner, is open to the public
throughout the year. Facilities include, Cartwright Hall Art
Gallery, a boating lake and coffee shop, botanical gardens,
bandstand, Mughal water gardens, adventure children’s play area,
bowling greens and ball courts.
Set within the beautiful
surroundings of Lister Park, Cartwright Hall is Bradford's civic
art gallery and offers an exciting programme of contemporary
exhibitions, as well as four permanent galleries. The main
collections consist of 19th and 20th century art as well as a
fantastic collection of international contemporary prints and
South Asian arts and crafts.
